Sense of Self

Effective and sustainable leadership requires self-knowledge. We need to know our strengths and motivations well. We need to operate out of a sense of self rather being overly dependent on affirmation from others or the authority of our position.

NCLS data strongly supports the notion that leaders need to operate out of a strong internal sense of self, not being overly dependent on the affirmation of others or the ‘authority’ inherent in their position.

A strong sense of self is critically important to avoiding the traps of burnout and emotional exhaustion. Over-dependence on affirmation from others or positional authority can result in a dependency that is counterproductive for everybody concerned.

We need to understand well how we have been shaped, and to allow ourselves to grow from this awareness.
