Clarity of Purpose

A clear sense of purpose really matters for our wellbeing, our life and leadership. Psychological research suggests happiness goes deeper than the ‘hedonistic’ pursuits of pleasure to deeper levels of wellbeing, and to questions about purpose and meaning in life.

Leaders with a strong sense of purpose in life are also less likely to be susceptible to emotional exhaustion and have a high level of satisfaction with their ministry roles. Most church leaders (90%) have a strong sense of call to what they are doing. Leaders without such a strong sense of purpose are more susceptible to emotional exhaustion.

Deep in our hearts, many of us yearn to live positive lives and make a difference, but sometimes struggle to discover direction. We need to ask ourselves what really matters. What might it mean for me to grow greater meaning in my life? What are my life purposes and callings?
