Disability provisions in churches
Many churches provide for people with disabilities, whether in facilities or in a culture of inclusion. In fact, some 90% of local churches surveyed in the 2021 NCLS, said they offered at least one type of provision for people with disabilities, from a list of four options. So, how well do churchgoers rate those provisions? Are they adequate for people with disabilities?
Mental health support from churches
Churchgoers who had sought or received treatment for a mental health issue in the last 2 years, were asked to rate the support they received from their church in regard to their mental health. Mental health support from churches is rated as good, yet many churches are unaware.
Churchgoers experience of disability
In the 2021 NCLS we asked churchgoers about their personal experience or connection with disability. More than half of church attenders indicate that they have an experience of, or connection with disability. Nearly three in ten say they experience a health problem that affects their involvement in church life.
Would Australians attend church if invited this Easter?
In December 2022, we asked Australians whether they would go to church at Easter, if invited by a close friend or family member, along with their general understandings about Christianity. Results show that four in 10 would go to church at Easter if invited. And around six in 10 Australians are familiar with Christianity to some extent.
